Many people dream of buying or building their own home and we are often asked the question “How much does it cost to build a home?”  There is no easy way to answer this question.  However, the NAHB has done a great job of breaking down the construction costs with this graphic showing were the money is allocated along the eight main steps of construction. The analysis was based on a single family home with 2,776 finished square feet, a lot size of just over 11,000 square feet, and includes costs to the builder such as labor, cost of materials, and charges from subcontractors. This article does a great job of explaining the process and the costs of building a new home.
